My name is Birgitte Sønderby and is born and raised Oslo. I was born and raised in Oslo. Then I lived for one year in the South of France and ten years in Rome. I have studied at Interior Designer - Decorator School IDS. I have also studied art history and Italian cultural history at the University of Oslo.
The fascination for architecture and interior design has probably
been present since childhood, when I was with my father on
assignments as an electrical installer and gained insight into many
homes and public buildings. The atmosphere and variety of the
different homes were exciting and interesting.
Now, as an interior designer, I seek knowledge about the function of
the room and the movement pattern, furniture, texture and the
influence of light and colours. My intention for each assignment is
to meet the customer and be able to understand the needs, and then
to transform the customer's ambitions into reality. My goal is to
create an environment that provides peace of mind and well-being, a
place where emotions are aroused and an interior that reflects the
building's soul and the homeowner's identity. Over the years I have
come to think that serenity may be a core element in gifted works of
architecture and interior design. I would like that to be true
A room is not a room without natural light. It comes through a window and then it somehow belongs to the room, changes it, endlessly, in warmth, colour and character, making the room a different room every second of the day.
I am solution-oriented and concerned about usability and the environment around us. High-quality craftsmanship allows for reusing all different sorts of things, such as old furniture, fixtures and fittings. Also, there’s another reason why I keep choosing materials that last for a long time. I find that it resonates with the perception of timelessness from good design.
